Abstract：Wuthering Heights (1847) and Tess of the D’Urbervilles (1891) are two masterpieces in the history of world literature. The former is the only novel from the British novelist Emily Bronte(1818―1848). The latter comes from Thomas
Hardy(1840 ― 1928), a British critical realism writer. The time difference between the two works is nearly half a century. The two writers both have their own experiences, and of course there are many differences between them. But both of the two works were born in the Victorian era, so they both have the characteristics of that period. Over the years, the separate comments and analyses of the two works have emerged in an endless stream. But the two heroines of the two works have not been much analyzed together. This thesis is based on the previous studies of these two works, it compares and contracts the similarities and the differences of the tragic origins from two heroines Catherine and Tess from the aspects of times and plots by the method of comparative analysis, so as to provide a new angle for further appreciation. The similar tragic origins can be pided into love tragedy, personality tragedy and social tragedy. The different tragic origins include psychological tragedy and moral tragedy.

摘要：《呼啸山庄》（1847）和《德伯家的苔丝》（1891）是世界文学史上的两部名著。 前者是英国小说家艾米莉·勃朗特（1818—1848）的唯一一部长篇小说，后者出自英国 批判现实主义作家托马斯·哈代（1840—1928）之笔。两部作品相差近半个世纪，两位 作家也有着各自的经历，当然存在着诸多不同。但这两部作品都产生于维多利亚时代， 因此都带有那个时期的特点。多年来对两部作品的单独评论与分析可谓层出不穷，但把 两部作品的女主人公放在一起分析的还为数不多。本文以之前的研究为基础，用对比分 析法从两部小说的女主人公凯瑟琳和苔丝的时代和情节等角度比较和联系他们悲剧根 源的相同点和不同点，为进一步欣赏作品提供一个新的角度。相同悲剧根源可以分为爱 情悲剧、性格悲剧和社会悲剧，不同的悲剧根源包括心理悲剧和道德悲剧。
