His artistic methods of comedy flows out bemoaning of lost lives between the line, which was the main writing style of this works.

By describing the bitterness of Old Ding in the process of planned economy to socialist market economy, it fully shows the humorous style through his ideas which is behind the time.The reason of this humorous style’s birth is based on conflict between the various thoughts caused by different economic and political environments. These also represent the Extreme Utilitarianism and moral anomie faced by people in the market economy. As a typical character of the new era , Little Hu can’t understand Old Ding’s utterance, so took Old Ding’s humor for granted . As Irony and Black Humor are harmoniously throughout the text, seemingly nonsensical ending is the best interpretation of Mo Yan’s unique sense of humor. The “Humor” is the gentle reminder from Little Hu that reflects Old Ding’s moral value of simplicity and ridiculousness. Little Hu found his master’s ridiculous idea but still felt shameful that Old Ding’s troubled mind and soul do not get stale. As the unique point of Mo Yan’s humor, taunting social phenomenon also shows the feelings of compassion additionally.
