Interestingly speaking, people always compare “Lord of the Flies” with “The Coral Island”, as the stories both happened on the island. However, the details and results are totally different. “The Coral Island” tells us a positive story, which is also recommended to children. But as for “Lord of the Flies”, the style is up-side down. In fact, the author also tended to challenge the fictional world made by most former writers. The completion of “Lord of the Flies” actually turns out to be Golding’s self scream towards the reality. Golding had witnessed the real battlefield and became doubtful about human nature. The cruelty, the bloody spots, the violence made by Fascist rioters and the atomic bomb. All those issues happened during World War II had been written in Golding’s eyes as well. William began to be puzzled and think about the origin that contributed to these tragedies. Eventually, William thought that people just couldn’t realize the fatalness hidden under our skins, and our dark side would grow-up gradually by our ignorance. It was writers’ duties to remind us of it and help us look into ourselves straightly.

Besides, Golding had been teaching students for about ten years. He knew exactly about children’s ways of thinking. From his research, he found that kids would behave rudely without the limitations of rules and education gained from teachers. We could easily see the evil spirit would appear naturally from the children. The truth noticed by William was totally different from the common sense. In “Lord of the Flies”, the main characters are as follows, Ralph, Piggy, Jack, Roger, Simon and the twins(Sam and Eric). To be exact, their changes can be called as the typical. As there is only one island, all the stories and accidents are related with everyone. In this way, we can obviously find that to deal with those things, different characters will choose different attitudes. Their inner monologue and their actions are also different.
