The topic of this paper mainly comes from three aspects: Firstly, when our instructor instructs us the "advanced education English", she uses the plain language to explain the constructivist teaching thought, which arouses my great interest. Secondly, I worked as an intern in Tangqi No.2 Middle School for several years. As months of English teaching, in the teaching practice in the past, I have been with the traditional teaching concept, which is far from the current new curriculum reform of teaching philosophy. And by learning constructivism theory and having some profound reflection of the actual teaching, I grew up with such an idea in my heart, that is combined with the actual theory and the current middle school English teaching reform during the English teaching. Thirdly, the constructivist teaching model is widely used in the fields of mathematics, science and language, however, the research on the application of English teaching is relatively small in China. This paper attempts to apply constructivism to several typical teaching modes in middle school English classes, hoping to inspire some implications for current middle school English teaching reform.
1.2 Significance of the Research
1.2.1 Theoretical significance
Generally speaking, the basic view of the constructivist learning theory holds that the acquisition of the learner's knowledge is not passed by the teacher, but the learner in a certain situation, that is, under the social and cultural background, with the help of other people, the necessary learning materials are used, and the way of meaning construction is obtained. By learning constructivism knowledge, constructivism can provide more educational theory guidance for junior middle school English teaching, so that teachers can understand how to guide students to learn independently and autonomously through scientific teaching theories. In the process of learning, constructivism also emphasizes that organizational learners use language and text to express to others, so that each learner's thinking wisdom can be shared by the whole learning group.
1.1.2Practical significance
The practical significance of this study is mainly manifested in two aspects:
(1)At present, the new round of basic education curriculum reform has created an opportunity for the reform of English Teaching in middle school. Middle school education is the natural extension of basic education, an important part of basic education, and also a bridge to connect primary education and higher education. The concept and mode of English Teaching in middle school are not innovative, the reform of basic teaching of compulsory English will not be deepened, and the results of the reform can not be consolidated. Then the middle school English teaching reform also will become the water without a source. Therefore, it is very necessary and urgent to reflect on the present situation of English teaching in middle school and to explore the teaching mode of middle school English.
(2)The application of Constructivist Teaching Model in middle school English teaching provides a new perspective for the new curriculum reform of middle school English. “General middle school English Curriculum Standard (Experiment)”clearly points out that one of the basic ideas of English Teaching in middle school is to optimize the way of learning and improve the ability of autonomous learning. In the process of curriculum implementation, teachers should actively help students optimize their learning methods, enable them to take active learning activities through observation, experience and inquiry, and give full play to their learning potential, form effective learning strategies and improve their autonomous learning ability. And teachers should guide students to learn to use various media and information resources, broaden their learning channels, and form a style and style of learning with personality. But for a long time, English Teaching in China has been the traditional model of teacher centered, to impart the knowledge. Under the background of new curriculum reform, this mode put students in a passive position, which severely constrained the development of students' independent innovation, learning ability and thinking persity, which is contrary to the basic idea of new curriculum reform in middle school. Constructivist learning theory holds that students are not passive recipients, but active constructors of knowledge, and teachers are the guide of students' learning process. Just as the ancient Greek biologist Plutarch said, “the mind of a student is not a container to be filled, but a torch that needs to be ignited”.
