With the rapid development of human society, two inconvenient problems have emerged: one is the unlimited demand for nature, causing serious environmental problems, and the other is the spiritual emptiness, the indifferent and a sense of distance between people. One of the prime reasons is the destruction of ecological balance by human. People no longer respect nature, and it is also difficult for them to have a peaceful and serene mood in nature.

Before the emerging of ecocriticism, the studies of these two books mainly focused on the symbolic meanings of the texts or the images of the protagonists, and there were few comparative studies. From the perspective of ecocriticism, a comparative study of these two books makes it clear that human beings can only build an ecological society by creating a harmonious relationship with nature, with other people and with self. This thesis provides people with a way to build a harmonious society. Human and nature should respect each other; man should have an equal coexistence with people, and maintain harmony between people and self.
