Abstract:With the popularization of English courses in primary schools, the teaching of English reading is being given more and more attention. Reading is one of an important part of linguistic competence. It is not only an important skill in the process of language learning but the major part of language teaching as well. Recently, English picture books have been widely used in primary school as the complimentary materials. As the English books have colorful pictures and are well illustrated with simple and repeated language, they become more and more popular with pupils. Therefore, it is of great practical value for improving the efficiency of reading teaching to carry out the teaching of English picture books.
This paper mainly aims to find out the effectiveness in improving reading ability by reading English picture books as the complementary reading materials during the reading process. The research questions are as follows: (1) In what specific aspects can English picture books improve students’ reading ability? (2) What are the selection criteria of English picture books?
In this study, more than 100 pupils are chosen as the research participants. They are from grade five in XueJun Primary School. They are pided into control group and experimental group. This paper mainly uses the following research instruments and methods in the research process: literature analysis, , questionnaire and classroom observation.
It is concluded that the English pictures books can be effectively integrated into the teaching of English reading in primary school. It plays an important role in improving students' interest in reading English books and develop students' English reading strategies and English comprehension ability. At the same time, this paper also puts forward the selection criteria of English picture books.

摘 要:随着小学英语课程标准的普及,小学英语阅读教学已经被越来越多的学校和教师所重视。阅读不仅 是语言教学的重要部分,也是语言学习的重要技能。近年来,英语绘本作为教材的补充读物已经得到了 广泛地运用。其图文并茂、语言简洁、生动形象等特点受到了学生的喜爱。因此,开展英语绘本教学, 对提高阅读教学效率具有较大的实践价值。
本文以认知理论、图式理论、多元智能理论为理论基础,以实验法为主要研究方法,同时采取文献 综述法、课堂观察法和问卷调查法等研究方法。主要研究的是英语绘本对提高学生的阅读能力具体表现 在哪些方面和如何选择适合学生阅读的英语绘本这两个问题。
本实验中,笔者采取学军小学五年级 128 名学生为研究对象,并以班级为单位分成实验组和对照组。 在研究过程中,笔者通过前期和后期测试、学生的调查问卷以及课堂观察等多种形式收集数据并分析数 据。
通过数据分析得出,英语绘本作为补充阅读材料能有效地融入小学英语阅读教学中,对于提高学生 的英语阅读兴趣、培养学生的英语阅读策略以及英语综合能力有着很大的作用。同时,本文还对英语绘 本的选择提出了建议。
