Abstract：Never Let Me Go, the sixth novel written by Kazuo Ishiguro, is famous for its theme concerning clones. In this novel, Kazuo Ishiguro creates an imaginary world in which the clones and humans live together. It tells a story about a group of cloned humans’ life history and their sufferings as donors of human organs. On account of humans’ exploitation and slavery, the clones suffer both physically and emotionally. The novel condemns the paramount ideology of human interests.
The heroine Kathy is also the storyteller of this book. She tells readers the whole story and what the world is like in her eyes. Although she is a clone, her characteristics are full of humanities. She is sensitive and affectionate but also contradictory; there are complex personalities concentrating on her.
This thesis focuses on the characteristics of Kathy. From analyzing the characteristics of Kathy as well as the theme of the novel, this thesis tries to find out how the characterization influences the theme of the novel. In this paper, means of characterization include first person perspective and euphemism. Through analyses of the characteristics and characterizations of Kathy, the thesis tries to clarify the relationship between characterization and the theme.

论《别让我走》中角色塑造对小说主题的影响
摘 要：《别让我走》是石黑一雄的第六部小说，也是他的作品中题材比较独特的一部。小说立足于克隆人与人类并存的科幻世界，用看似平淡的口吻叙述了实则令人震惊的真相。小说讲述了一群克隆人的生活经历与作为器官捐献者的痛苦遭遇。由于人类的利用和奴役，克隆人不管是身体上还是心灵上都受到创伤。小说谴责了人类以自身利益至上的卑鄙做法。
小说女主角凯西同样也是故事的叙述者，通过她的眼睛，我们了解了书中的世界是什么样子的。虽然是克隆人，凯西身上并不缺少丰富的人性。她感情丰富敏感，同时性格也充满矛盾，集多种复杂心理于一身。
这篇论文从凯西的性格特点着手，通过分析凯西的性格特点与小说主题来找到角色塑造是如何影响小说主题的。小说角色塑造手法主要有第一人称视角和委婉语的使用。
