In the coexistence of human and nature, human and house, women are the most harmonious note. Just like Virginia Wolf said, a woman should have “a room of one’s own”. (Virginia Wolf) Compared with men’s destroy to house, women have a more harmonious and kind relation with it. There are many houses in Gone with the Wind, with different styles and sizes, and they are closely related with women that live in it. “Before marriage, young girls must be, above all other things, sweet, gentle, beautiful and ornamental, but, after marriage, they were expected to manage households that numbered a hundred or more, white and black, and they were trained with that in view.” (Mitchell 56) No matter it is before, during or after the war, it is women who will not abandon their houses. At the beginning of the novel, the author has already told us the close relation between women and their houses.
