在历史上，龙是中华民族的标志和象征，是民族精神的象征，曾起过凝聚中华民族的作用。由于中国自古以来以农立国，人们想象中的能够兴云布雨、腾云驾雾的龙早就受到人们的尊崇。封建帝王为了维护其统治，借助龙来树立自己的权威，而龙也因此而获得更为显赫的地位，受到了人们的普遍的崇拜，极大地影响着中国古代政治和文化。后来，随着时代的变迁，文明的嬗递，现代化的冲击，龙身上的帝王象征和神性呈现弱化，而与吉祥物有关的神性却强化了。
中华大地是龙的故乡、龙的家园。与龙有关的各种观念、现象、习俗等，组成了绚丽多彩的龙文化。并且广泛地渗入到社会生活的各个方面。体现着文化蕴涵，显示着龙的神力，秉赋龙的神性，焕发龙的精神，弘扬一种民族的精神，体现一个民族特有的心理。影响之广，渗透之深，是世所罕见的。
龙是一种内涵丰富的文化符号，是中华民族的一个象征。
已经有很多学者对龙的起源，龙的实质，龙的演变，龙文化等很多问题进行过探讨和研究。本文是在前人研究的基础上，通过对龙图腾，龙文化的介绍，来谈一谈龙文化所反映出来的一种民族的心理。

Keyword： dragon Totem Dragon culture China Race mental state1.龙图腾的概述1.1简单介绍图腾图腾（英文为Totem），是北美洲阿尔哥昆恩人的奥吉布瓦部族方言“奥图特曼”（ototeman）的译音，意为“他的亲族”。图腾的实体是某种动物、植物、非生物或自然现象。图腾崇拜的核心是认为某种动物、植物或无生物和自己的氏族有血缘关系，是本氏族的始祖和亲人，从而将其尊奉为本氏族的标志、象征和保护神。“图腾”一词最早见于1971年在伦敦出版的英国商人、人类学家龙格所著的《一个印第安译员兼商人的航海探险》一书中。世界各国不少学者，都对图腾崇拜这一既古老又奇特的文化现象做过考察和研究，普遍认为世界上许多民族都曾经有过图腾崇拜，其残余在近现代一些民族中还可以看到。
将“图腾”一词引进我国的是清代学者严复，他于1903年译英国学者甄克思的《社会通诠》一书时，首次把“totem”一词译成“图腾”，成为中国学术界的通用译名。
